Title/Content of Map: 'Plan D'Amboine, tel qu'il étoit en 1718 / Platte-Grond van Amboina, zoo als het was in den Jaare 1718' A decorative plan of the town and port of Ambon on the island of the same name in the Moluccas (Maluku) or Spice Islands. At the time the map was made, Ambon was part of the Dutch East Indies. The key on the left hand side identifies 41 locations. A compass rose in the lower part of the map orients the map as facing towards the south east.

Jacques-Nicolas Bellin(1703-1772) was a French cartographer, hydrographer and geographer. Born in Paris, Bellin was a member of the French intellectual group, the philosophes, a member of the Academie de Marine and of the Royal Society of London. His career spanned over five decades in which he produced a large number of maps for the Dépot des Cartes et Plans de la Marine.
