Description
Blanc de Chine porcelain. China, Qing 17th to 18th cent.
An unusual rendition, particularly the visage. Guanyin, derived from the Buddhist bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, seated in the „relaxed" pose known as lilasana. A complex system of creases, pearled ornaments on the chest, hair forming a chignon at the top, queues of hair flowing down to the shoulders. The face is delicately formed, showing a sensitive introverted expression. The fingers are likewise very fine, vivid and modelled individually. A ruyi sceptre with pearl decorations, ending in a lingzhi or peach of longevity, rests horizontally on her lower arm. An arm support on one side, formed with the head of a mythological animal and a leg with three claws emanating from its mouth. 德化觀音菩薩坐像. 中國, 17至18 世紀. 高 20 厘米.
HEIGHT 20 CM
From the collection of Juergen L. Fischer, Ascona
Condition reports and further images are available upon request
The renowned collector of Chinese porcelain Juergen L. Fischer lived in Ascona, located in the Swiss Kanton Tessin at Lago Maggiore. The extensive size of the collection is largely owed to the family's fortune, secured by pharmacist August Fischer and his revolutionary invention - the world's first adhesive made from synthetic resin, the famous "Uhu Alleskleber", developed in 1932. Juergen L. Fischer lived until 2013 and was an avid collector of Chinese porcelain whose astonishing taste encompassed a broad spectrum of types, of all sizes and with origins spanning across millennia. Juergen Fischer passed on his comprehensive knowledge in numerous text books - among others, his large and very instructive book about the art of Chinese snuffbottles and also an antiquarian's guide to Chinese art.
