Description
Two One-Gallon Stoneware Jugs with Make-Do Handles, New York State origin, circa 1875, one with slip-trailed poppy decoration, stamped "N. WHITE & CO BINGHAMTON", with unusual and ornate 19th century lead make-do handle; the other with slip-trailed foliate motif, stamped "NEW YORK / STONEWARE CO.", with 19th century tin make-do handle including a band around the spout and metal rivet at lower terminal. Provenance: From a small New England collection consigned to this auction. Binghamton jug with some light water glass staining, a base chip, and two small chips to interior of spout. New York Stoneware Co. jug with minor in-the-firing surface flake nears base and minor spout wear.
