Description
Origin: Ottoman Empire, 19th century.
Length – 65,3 cm.
Blade: single edged blade of characteristic yatagan shape. The blade is flat, with a wider ridge on the back. Both sides of the blade are decorated with geometric and floral ornaments, one side with inscription. Length of the blade 52,1 cm, width 3,1 cm.
Hilt: Brass fittings, covering part of the blade and the lower part of the gilt and covering the gap between grip plates. Fittings are decorated with geometric ornaments. Repaired. Grip plates of dark bone, decorated with numerous ornamented brass rosettes. Upper part of grip plates is broken and repaired. Grip plates are fixed to the tag with three iron rivets.
Scabbard: wooden scabbard covered with black leather (replaced). Brass fittings, engraved with geometric ornaments on obverse. Chape ends with the head of mythical animal. One suspension ring.
Condition report: blade is cleaned, with black spots and pitting from oxidation. Dark patina in indentations. Brass fittings of the handle heavily repaired. Grip plates with natural dark patina, upper parts are broken and repaired. Some brass rosettes are missing. Leather of the scabbard is replaced. Brass parts of the scabbard with natural patina, scratches and dents. Soldering joints on reverse.
