Description
Circa 1860s Photographic Stereoview; Depiction of a somber scene with African slaves in front of an outdoor plantation kitchen in Cuba. Several people appear, young and old, engaged in a variety of activities. Identification on reverse reads; "SCENES IN CUBA. No. 77. Plantation View. Kitchen of a Barracoon, with slaves variously occupied.". Published by E. Anthony, Broadway. (This view by E. Anthony pre-dates his partnership with his brother later in the 1860s.) Cuba ended it's participation in the slave trade in 1867 and abolished slavery in 1886. Photographic stereoview is mounted on slightly curved mount board which is about 6-3/4" x 3-1/4". Condition: some surface soiling, scuffs, edge bumps, and spots.
