Description
1491 Incunable Roman Poetry Tibullus & Martial ROME Latin 2 INCUNABULA in 1v
A rare pairing of two 15th-century works of commentary on Ancient Roman poetry! Bound together, these two works were published in 1491. The first work features the poetry of Albius Tibullus with the commentary of Philippus Beroaldus. The second is the poetry and epigrams of Martial and the commentary of Domizio Calderini and Georg Merula. While neither of these works is complete, the contents are highly desirable and impressive. Like many works from this era, the poetry itself is surrounded by commentary in smaller fonts.
The leather binding on these two works appears to be circa 17th-century Jesuit binding with fleur-de-lis imprints.
*Note on rarity and pricing. Incunable (pre-1501) printings are exceedingly rare and to find an example offered here at NO RESERVE is almost unheard of. Here is a chance to acquire 2 such printings that date only decades from the famed Gutenberg Bible. The book WILL sell to the highest bidder. Happy Bidding
