Description
A pair of Russian silver-mounted palisander photograph frames, Egor Pankratiev (or Pankratieff), Saint Petersburg, circa 1908-1917. An oval aperture set into each silver bordered palisander wood frame; decorated with a silver ribbon-tied floral garland swag and cascades surmounted by a silver bowknot.
Dimensions: Frame 5 7/8 in. H x 3 5/8 in. W (14.8 x 9.3 cm) Oval aperture: 2 3/4 in. H x 1 3/4 in. W (7 x 4.3 cm.).
There is relatively little known about the goldsmith and enameler Egor (Grigory) Pankratiev (Егор [Григорий] Григорьевич Панкратьев); works with his marks indicate that he produced objects with guilloché, champlevé, and cloisonné enamel. His mark appears together with that of Fabergé as well as the Grachev Brothers, indicating that both firms retailed pieces from his workshop. Examples of his work in guilloché enamel are held in the Faberge Museum in St. Petersburg.
