The Universal Genève Tri-Compax is, simply put, one of the most desirable and most collectible watches on the vintage market today.
It all began in 1894 when Universal Genève, or “Universal Watch” as it was known then, began producing various functionally-focused pocket watches for professional use alongside exquisitely crafted pieces marketed to discerning horology enthusiasts.
In an effort to capture a bigger audience, Universal Genève launched its 1st wristwatch in 1933, the “Compur" chronograph.
Almost a decade later, The Tri-Compax, the new flagship model in their lineup to commemorate their 50th anniversary debuted at Baselworld in 1944. The name, Tri-Compax, referred to the three complications: moonphase, chronograph & complete calendar.
Up for auction is a beautiful two-tone Universal Genève Tri-Compax automatic moonphase ref 699.104 chronograph.
The watch was worn rarely and it shows, the sapphire glass is free of scratches and undamaged and offers an unobstructed view into the breathtaking dial. The center portion of the dial has a white guilloche style texture contrasting against the engine turned gold subdials.
The 1st subdial located at 6 o’clock houses the Monphase display, the 2nd sub dial houses the decentralized seconds hand and a 24 hour indicator hand. Last but not least the 3rd sub dial located at the 12 o’clock position has 2 windows for the day and month including a 30 minute register for the chronometer.
The pristine Clous de Paris styled bezel is made of 18K Yellow gold and really ties into the gold sub-registers and Gold hands with luminescent appliqué.

Sitting at about 39 mm in diameter the watch wears nicely on the wrist and at approximately 13mm in height it will fit under almost all shirt cuffs.
