Description
A late 19th century German sterling silver dish ring bowl, Hanau, with import marks for London 1891 by Thomas Glaser In the 18th century Irish style, with pierced incurved sides of rococo decoration of flowers, C scrolls, grapes and Ho-Ho birds, with beaded rims. Each side with a rocaille cartouche, one engraved with a coat of arm with a crest of a dolphin haurient and the motto below ‘Firmum . in vita nihil’, the other one with the same crest and initials PMD in cursive script. With a removable blue glass liner, both sets of marks to the base. Diameter – 17.5 cm / 6.9 inches Weight – 464 grams / 14.92 ozt The crest, arms, motto and initials are for an unidentified member of the Dolphin family, of Turoe House, Galway, Ireland.
