Mexican Loop Patter holster probably for Colt SAA, Maker Unknown, circa 1875-1880. Two Loop pattern holster with California style deep re-curved throat profile and tooled border with reoccurring spade like feathers with a closed toe. Measures 11" x 6", The Belt measures approx 47" x 3" H and sits mounted in a 48" x 5.5" wood plank presentation History: The extensive utilization of cartridge belts by Frontiersman in the late 1860's inspired a new holster design, more functional, The "Mexican Loop" pattern holster evolved out of the American Southwest and spread to frontier saddlers and became common on the Great Plains from Texas to Canada within 10 years. The belts featured an ample and more flexible belt loop that could pass easily over the bigger cartridge filled belts.
