DUMAS ALEXANDRE: Père. (1802-1870) French Writer whose works include The Three Musketeers. L.S., Ale. Dumas, one page, 8vo, Brussels, 7th December 1852, to the Artists and Employees of the Historic Theatre, in French. Dumas states `I learn after reading a telegraph message that M. Daudé and Chesamy, on your behalf, have declared voting against me to the Concordat. I cannot believe they expressed themselves in such a way and on your behalf. I inform you about this diligently, in order to know myself what can I expect from now on.´ With integral address leaf also in Dumas´ hand. Overall age wear, with a small cut to the upper left corner, not affecting the text or signature. G £150-200 The Theatre Historique was founded by Dumas in 1847 but went bankrupt in 1850 and closed. The building was acquired by the National Opera and re-named in 1852 the Theatre Lyrique, and later knocked down in 1863. Dumas, ruined, had to sell the Monte-Cristo castle and went to Belgium escaping from his creditors.
