Paul Landry (b.1933)A painter, printmaker, draftsman, illustrator, commercial artist, author and educator, Paul Landry (aka: Paul A. Landry) was born in Halifax, Canada and has lived in Westport, Connecticut for several decades (c.mid 1960s). His best known mediums are oils, watercolors, gouache*, etching*, limited edition prints and mixed mediums. His primary subjects are portraits, figures, genre*, landscapes, snowscapes, marine scenes, street scenes, rural scenes, nostalgic scenes, gardens, cottages, interiors, boats and seafaring history. His styles are Realism* and Romantic Realism.Landry's art education includes an apprenticeship as a photo engraver (c.1950); and studies at the Nova Scotia College of Art in Halifax (c.1950s) and at the Art Students League of New York* (1957). Before turning to painting full-time, he worked as a photo-engraver and commercial artist. He was also an instructor with the Famous Artists School* and he is the author of the instructional book entitled On Drawing and Painting.Landry is also the author of two other books: The Captain's Garden: A Reflective Journey Home through the Art of Paul Landry and At the Heart of Christmas (see AskART book references).
