(8vo) 19.8x12.5 cm (7¾x5"), blue blindstamped cloth boards rebacked in modern cloth, gilt-lettered morocco spine label, fresh endpapers. Reprint.



Includes the author's visits to the Hervey Islands, New South Wales, Tahiti, Samoa, Tonga, etc. The first edition was published in 1837, two years prior to the fateful day in November, 1839, when, while visiting a part of the New Hebrides where John Williams was unknown, he and fellow missionary James Harris were killed and eaten by cannibals on the island of Erromango during an attempt to bring them the Gospel.

Condition
Vertical streak to spine, some scuffs and cup rings to cloth, rubbing to somewhat bumped corners, edges rubbed as well; hinges starting, a few dogeared leaves, mild toning with hints of foxing; very good.
