Giclee Portrait of fighter pilot, Karl Wendell Richter, Oct 4, 1942 to July, 28, 1967, by artist James Gurney Miller. In Barnwood frame with canvas lining. History: Richter was an officer in the United States Air Force and an accomplished fighter pilot during the Vietnam War. At the age of 23 he was the youngest pilot in that conflict to shoot down a MiG in air-to-air combat. At the time of his death, Lt. Karl Richter had flown more missions over North Vietnam than any other airman, 198 in all officially credited. He died July 28, 1967 while flying a mission in Vietnam and is buried at the United States Air Force Academy Cemetery. Dr. Brogdon was the owner of Brogdon Manor, a stately plantation home, located in the Brogdon Community, near Sumter, SC. The home was built in 1898 by his grandfather William Turner Brogdon. The Brogdon community was comprised of a local country store, cotton gin, sawmill and dairy. William Turner Brogdon was one of the largest planters in Sumter and Clarendon counties at the end of the 19th century.
