PETAIN PHILIPPE: (1856-1951) French General of World War I, served as Chief of State of Vichy France 1940-44. An attractive colour printed oblong 12mo folding card bearing the title Souhaits a L'Armee, issued by Petain and the French Republic at the end of World War I, with his circular image to the centre surrounded by a wreath and with a printed message in French to the verso dated 31st December 1917 and signed ('Petain') by Petain in dark fountain pen ink at the base.
