Dr. Abernathy Civil Rights March 1971 On Wall Street Poster Rare

Color poster of Ralph David Abernathy, 10.5" x 16.25". A black and white image of Dr. Abernathy giving a speech, with the words "March on Wall Street April 5. War Against Repression" written in red and green. The poster calls for legislation for "end hunger", "jobs and income", "justice", "representative govt", "quality education", "right to organize", and "end the war."

On April 5, 1971, Abernathy and approximately 4000 protestors marched on New York's Financial District in opposition to the Vietnam War, racism, and poverty. One of the demands by protestors was a guaranteed annual income of $6500.

Dr. Ralph David Abernathy (1926-1990) was a civil rights activist and Baptist minister who mentored Dr. Martin Luther King. The two men collaborated to organize the Montgomery bus boycott. Abernathy also co-founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. After King was assassinated, Abernathy took over the leadership role at SCLC, a role which he held until 1977.

Light toning and foxing throughout. Flattened folds. Minor warping at the upper and lower edges.
