-NO RESERVE-Super example of one of the classiest Civil War Confederate swords produced for the South. RARE & FINE KRAFT GOLDSCHMIDT & KRAFT CONFEDERATE STAFF OFFICERS SWORD. This is among the most beautiful & desirable of Confederate staff officer's pattern swords. This has the CS in a pierced guard of oak leaves & acorns. An identical pattern is pictured as fig. 21-A in the William A. Albaugh book - Photographic Supplement to Confederate Swords-, 1960. The hilt, pommel, and knuckleguard are well finished. The grip is leather covered and wrapped with single strand copper wire. The blade is grey steel. The orig & correct scabbard is brazed with brass mounts with a matching patina on the hilt. The brass drag is not of KG&K manufacture. It is from an 18th century french sword with a patina that matches the scabbard. The steel scabbard shows uniform surface pitting overall. The brass patina is undisturbed. The blade is grey steel with very little etching visible. Very good overall. 32" blade. Leather grip is dry & flaking but still appears about 60% intact. Single strand copper wire is in place. I am uncertain if the wire is the original 1860s wire or a collector restoration.
