Description
This is a rather rare and decorative map of Havana is based on the survey of Captain James Phelps. The detailed plan shows the harbor, fortified city and surrounding countryside with hills, palm trees, etc. A key at top left locates Morro Castle, the Custom House, the Governor's fort, factories, and churches, all in all 29 places. The decorative title cartouche features a vignette of a galleon and a fort. A large compass rose orients the chart with north in the lower left corner of the map. Published in the Universal Museum.
