Autographed Confederate Civil War General Robert E. Lee carte de visite (carte-de-visite, carte de ville, carte de vista, visiting card, calling card), BOLDLY SIGNED below the photographic image - Photograph is quarter-length vignette of General Lee in civilian attire facing right wearing a suit, vest, and tie. - Stamped below the signature "Entered according to act of Congress, in the year 1866, by A. Gardner, in the Clerk's Office of the District of Columbia." - Verso reads "ALEX. GARDNER. Photographer to the Army of the Potomac. GALLERIES 511 SEVENTH STREET AND 332 PENNSYLVANIA AVE. PUBLISHED BY PHILIP & SOLOMONS, WASHINGTON D.C." and has a circular backstamp toward the bottom right of the Alex. Gardner Galleries - Made of an albumen print, which was a thin paper photograph, mounted on a thicker paper card, measuring 2 3/8" x 4" - EXCELLENT CONDITION.
