The Miró surname indicates Jewish roots (the terms marrano or converso describe Iberian Jews who converted to Christianity). His father was Miquel Miró Adzerias and his mother was Dolors Ferrà. He began drawing classes at the age of seven at a private school at Carrer del Regomir 13, a medieval mansion. To the dismay of his father, he enrolled at the fine art academy at La Llotja in 1907.
