La mappa del mondo di Bailleul è della più grande rarità e una delle più spettacolari della seconda metà del XVIII secolo. Incisa da Delamonce e pubblicata da Daudet, mercante di carte a Lione, si distingue per il suo splendido stile barocco e per la ricchezza della sua decorazione: su ogni lato sono disposti diagrammi astronomici che rappresentano il sole, la luna, le eclissi, i solstizi di l'estate e l'inverno così come le teorie di Copernico, Tycho Brahe, Tolomeo e Cartesio. I quattro angoli sono animati da personaggi che rappresentano la scienza, le arti e i quattro continenti. Dedicato a Bertrand René Pallu, amministratore della città di Lione. Bailleul's world map is of the greatest rarity and one of the most spectacular from the second half of the 18th century. Engraved by Delamonce and published by Daudet, a card merchant in Lyon, it stands out for its splendid Baroque style and for the richness of its decoration: on each side there are astronomical diagrams representing the sun, the moon, the eclipses, the solstices of summer and winter as well as the theories of Copernicus, Tycho Brahe, Ptolemaeus and Descartes. The four corners are animated by characters representing science, the arts and the four continents. Dedicated to Bertrand René Pallu, administrator of the city of Lyon.
