A number of these letters from George H. W. and Barbara Bush refer proudly to their sons. Barbara Bush says of the 1994 gubernatorial campaigns of George W. and Jeb Bush: "they can both win!", and Bush, Sr. says of his son in September, 2000: "We, too, thought George did well on Oprah. Even the deadly polls are looking up." Four days after George W. Bush was formally elected president by the Electoral College after one of the most contentious elections in modern times, Bush, Sr. wished the Swearingens "Happy holidays from the happiest, proudest father in the entire world".
