Pierre Eugene Duteurtre, O/C, 18 x 21 1/2", Jeune Fille Au Bas Noire.known under the pseudonym Dut, was born in 1911 in Deuil-la-Barre (Val-d'Oise) and died in 1989. He is a comic book artist and French painter.His career as a draftsman began in the 1930s. Dut worked for Marijac publications until 1968. Then, he left comics to devote himself fully to painting.In 1939, Pierre Duteurtre was at the peak of his career in the field of painting, when he won the Prix de Rome in 1931. The press provided him with enough work. But World War II breaks out in Europe, and upsets his personal life and career. In September, he is mobilized and goes to the front. On June 22, 1940, after the capitulation of France, he was taken prisoner in Saint-Die, in the Vosges, and was then sent to the Stalag. He will stay there for three years. Sick, in June 8, 1943, he is repatriated sanitary. After that, he tries to get back to work during the war, but work is rare. He still makes illustrations that will be published after the war.After the Second World War, Pierre Eugène Duteurtre accepted a post at the Beaux Arts of Rouen as a teacher. This allows him to get back to painting again. He exhibited his paintings at the Legrip Gallery from 1945 to 1948 in Rouen. He also exhibits in Paris at the Allard Gallery. He received in 1948, the Young Norman Painting Prize and the Grand Prix of the Comic Strip!From 1968, Dut leaves the world of comics and devotes himself to his passion for the painting. He moved to Paris in Picasso's studio at 49 rue de Grenelle. In 1982, a plaque in tribute to Picasso is affixed to his building. He spent a peaceful end of life alongside his wife and friends in Paris. He devotes a lot of time to painting. He exhibited in Paris, in the Province and abroad: United States and Japan in 1970. He received the French Officer's Cross of Merit and Dedication.In bad health, widower, in 1989 he left France for the Netherlands, where he resides with his niece. He goes back to painting. He is sensitive to the beauty of the landscapes, the prettiness of the houses and gardens, the kindness of the Dutch. But he died on November 9, 1989, at the age of 78.
