Description
Antique Kerr & Binns Worcester group figure. White porcelain figure depicting a man with fur lined coat and sword with a woman. Has gilded accents. Red K&B Worcester mark to bottom used 1852 - 1862. Measures 13 1/2" height (34.2cm). In 1852 two Irishmen, Richard William Binns (1819 – 1900) and William Henry Kerr (1823 – 1879) took over the management of the Chamberlain & Co. porcelain works in Severn Street, Worcester. The factory had been ravaged by fire and an extensive rebuilding programme took place in the 1850's. Modern machinery and working methods improved the quality of the product in every department. In 1862 W.H.Kerr returned to his native Ireland. Under the leadership of Richard Binns, having established new materials, bodies and glazes and trained new staff the factory was set to climb to new heights as Royal Worcester.
