Mayan Territories, Guatemala, ca 550 to 800 CE. A spectacular and important Mayan polychrome pottery cylinder! A Maya lord sits wearing a printed loin cloth and elaborate feather and jaguar pelt headdress and large stone necklace, attendant kneels behind him, arms crossed. The lord is addressing another Maya noble who also wears a fantastic headdress, he too with attendant to his rear. Glyph band between and large and very readable glyph band at top talks about the 3rd Maya Baktun - a method for relating time periods. 6-3/4"H x 5"D.
