Description
German Faience pottery model of a dog. Unsigned. Circa 1775. Attributed to the Bonn-Poppelsdorf Factory. Beautifully sculpted in the best naive manner, decorated with a milky white faience glaze and detailed features in manganese - eggplant, blue, yellow and black tin glazes.

NOTES / REFERENCES: A nearly identical example of a sitting pug, no doubt by the same hand, was sold at Koller International Auctions in Switzerland (Lot 1800 - September 19, 2016) with a realized price of $4,451.00 (CHF 4,000). It was identified as "SITTING PUG WITH COLLAR, Bonn, Manufactory Poppelsdorf, ca. 1780."

Glaze roughness to the dog's right ear and right foot. Losses to the bow of the collar at the back of the neck. Tail with nearly invisible line.
