Description
Signed on the bottom with impressed "CH" and numbers.
Possibly painted by Charles Volkmar (who worked at the Charles Houry Atelier as a ceramic decorator during the late 19th century).
Underglaze painted with birds perched on branches and flowering foliage in the Aesthetic Movement taste. Splashed with gold in the Japanese manner.
HEIGHT: 6 5/8"
PROVENANCE: New York City collection.
NOTES / REFERENCES: Jules-Charles Houry had an atelier in Paris for the decoration of ceramics in the second half of the 19th century. The Ateliers works were shown at various expositions, including: London, 1862, Paris 1867, Vienna 1873, Philadelphia 1876, and Paris 1887, 1889, 1900.
