Description
10.5" x 11". Antique 19th/20th century Qing dynasty Chinese silk civil rank badge (called Buzi). Beautifully embroidered with beautiful metallic silk thread, depicts a bird perched on a rock above the sea of rolling waves, surrounded by Ashtamangala – eight auspicious Buddhist symbols – and facing red sun on the left-hand side of the badge (male badge). The type of bird on the badge denotes the rank out of nine. Wear includes loose threads and an approximately 0.5" diameter frayed hole in the center of the badge just under the bird.
