This unusual example allows a rare glimpse into Matisse's creative process as he made last-minute revisions to his bon-a-tirer proof, instructing his printer to remove a line above the model's right arm, and to soften a line at the top of the cross-hatched background. From the collection of renowned French artist, dealer and collector, Henri Marie Petiet.

Surface soiling, time staining and slight rubbing along the sheet edges, a few soft handling creases in the top and bottom margins, a few faint scattered foxmarks, light scuffs on the bottom sheet edge, a pressure mark on the lower right sheet edge from a hinge on the verso (showing in raking light on the recto), pencil inscription lower left sheet edge, remains of hinge on the right sheet edge verso, pencil inscription verso.
