c. 1970s; manufactured by Tiffany and Co. for Mobil Oil Corp. New York
Corporate gift to the former chairman and CEO of Mobil Oil, Albert L. Nickerson (1911-1994) in the form of Tiffany & Co. sterling silver coasters. These coasters were gifted to Nickerson at the end of his 42-year career with Mobil. He began in 1933 as a station attendant and eventually became station manager, salesman and then joined the corporate ranks in 1946. In addition to his time spent with Mobil, Nickerson also served as chairman of the Business Council, director and then chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, on the board of trustees of Rockefeller University, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the American Museum of Natural History. He also was on the Harvard Board of Overseers and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
The coasters each feature an engraved signature from each of the board members at the time of Nickerson's retirement and have an oak veneer base. Each coaster weighs betwen 6.8 and 7.3 oz. The set of coasters collectively weighs 111.7 oz. Each coaster has a 3.25" diameter.
These pieces exhibit minor signs of wear including some scratches and tarnish. Please refer to photos regarding condition.
