Title: Winged 5 Heart Tramp Art Wall Pocket by John Zadzora
Description: A fine winged 5 heart tramp art wall pocket by John Martin Zadzora. Zadzora was one of the most artistic tramp artists known. His signature style was a wall pocket with five heart shaped mirrors.
This example is profusely decorated with mirrors, rosettes, wings, a horseshoe, 2 drawers and a small shelf as he is showing his true talent with a pocketknife and cigar boxes.
He lived in North Hampton, PA and many of his examples were found there. His signature wall pocket was the first identified piece of tramp art found by Frances Lichten in her 1959 seminal article - the first to identify this unique body of folk art, she called it Tramp Work. This is one of his earlier works dating to 1910 - 1916. In the photograph he is standing in the top row third from right.
