Description
Galle Marqueterie-sur-Verre compote from the Bernice and Henry Blount collection with lavender columbine flowers and amber & tan foliage flecked with foil inclusions that drift the flower form bowl circumference. Four serpentine pale pink arms steady the bowl onto a central stem. Engraved Galle' on the side of the bowl. Oral history tells us that Dr. Blount purchased the compote without the section below the arms and commissioned a glass artist to reconstruct the lower portion. The base admirably repeats one flower and two leaves with foil inclusions, much like the original and Galle' is engraved beneath in the same manner as on the bowl. The connection just below the arms is noticeable of being reattached, while the connections of the base, spool and knob is faultless. If the lower section was recreated, the studio artist was an exceptional craftsman to harmonize color and style with the original. In any case, a beautiful example. Height is 9 inches.
