California & American Fine Art Sale, Oct. 23
Our October 23, 2007 sale of California and American Paintings will feature over 210 lots of fine paintings, drawings, sculpture and prints, most from private collections and local estates.
Important examples of California Impressionism include a large San Diego landscape by Maurice Braun and a charming California landscape with oak trees, poppies and rocks by Granville Redmond. Paintings by Franz Bischoff, J. Duncan Gleason, Alfred Mitchell, Mary DeNeale Morgan, Edgar Payne, Elmer and Marion Wachtel, Gunnar Widforss and others will also be offered.
Emil Kosa Jr.'s watercolor 'Red Car Terminal' leads the California watercolor section and many of the most important practitioners of the California Style watercolor movement are represented including Rex Brandt, Phil Dike, Barse Miller, Charles Payzant and Millard Sheets.
We will offer a varied selection of Western landscapes and figural works from Frank Tenney Johnson's nocturne 'In the Evening Glow' depicting a horse and rider in a landscape and an early 20th century view of the Grand Canyon by Frank Sauerwein to Marion Kavanagh Wachtel's watercolor 'Marketplace Taxco, Old Mexico' and sporting artist Ogden Pleissner's dramatic scene of men fishing (?) on a river.
Important regional artists are represented including Indiana painter T.C. Steele, Kansas painter Birger Sandzen and Texas painter Robert W. Wood. Four seascapes by photorealist painter Peter Ellenshaw will also be featured and much more.
