American Art and Pennsylvania Impressionists

Freeman’s | Hindman June 2 sale of American Art and Pennsylvania Impressionists features a fine curated selection of 19th and 20th century paintings, prints, works on paper and sculpture by major names such as John F. Kensett, John S. Sargent, Milton Avery, Emma Fordyce MacRae and George Sotter.

The sale is led by The Boxers - a large and unique bronze by Mahonri Young, deaccessioned from the Brandywine Museum. Other highlights include works by Ashcan artists Guy Pène du Bois, Robert Henri, William Glackens. The Pennsylvania Impressionists section of the sale is led by four oils by Daniel Garber, as well as two canvases by Edward Redfield, including Snug Harbor, directly from the Redfield descendants, and a quintessential oil by Fern Coppedge, included in the artist's retrospective. Other works by George Sotter, Walter E. Schofield and William L. Lathrop complete the sale.

Freeman’s | Hindman is particularly pleased to present a selection of works from the Collection of Dr. Julian Katz and Dr. Sheila Moriber Katz. Julian was a leading academic gastroenterologist, author, and editor who was instrumental in defining the condition known today as lactose intolerance. Sheila was a celebrated pathologist, business owner, poet, educator, lecturer, and mentor, and the first to identify the lethal bacteria known to cause Legionnaires’ Disease, an experience she described as like "touching the sun."
