Fine Kashmir Moon Shawl, Ca. 1825, wool. Signed in the black moon. Ref: Yet Another Treasury of Indian Folk Textiles, Carol Summers, 2013, page 62-63. Size: 4'8'' x 4'7'' (142 x 140 cm). The moon shawl (chandar) first appeared in Kashmir in 1680 and is characterised by its spacious, square field, and central moon-like medallion. Provenance: The Carol Summers Collection of Indian Folk Textiles.
