HARRISON FAMILY DESCENDANT ANTIQUE 14K GOLD AND ENAMEL DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION (D.A.R.) PIN,yellow and white gold, emblem form featuring a wheel with 13 spokes encircled by the words "DAUGHTERS OF THE / AMERICAN REVOLUTION" with blue enameling, thirteen stars border the outer edge and a distaff filled with flax rests under the wheel, pin fastener and hinged pendant bail, engraved "Lucy Singleton Howell / 23387" to back, housed in probably original "DAR" presentation box. Impressed "CALDWELL. 9.22.91. / PATENT" to back for J.E. Caldwell & Co. of Philadelphia, PA, tested as 14K gold fineness. Total weight including enamel: 5.7 grams.Late 19th century.1" x 1 1/4" OA.
Catalogue Note: Lucy Singleton Taylor Howell was born on June 22, 1838 in Cincinnati, OH to parents William Henry Harrison Taylor (1813-1894) and Anna Tuthill Harrison Taylor (1813-1865). Through her mother, she was the granddaughter of William Henry Harrison (1773-1841), who served as the 9th U.S. President for 32 days before his death. Through her father and mother, Lucy was also the great-/ great great-granddaughter of Benjamin Harrison (1726-1791), who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and served as the Governor of Virginia amongst other political offices.
