A striking Chinese Cultural Revolution papercut on red paper on paper backing. It features a benevolent Chairman Mao leaning over a railing decorated by a bunch of plum blossoms next to him. Two lines of Mao's poem ??·?? "Winter Clouds", cut into the left edge, written in 1962, were incorporated into the illustration. They translate as "Plum blossoms welcome the whirling snow. Small wonder flies freeze and perish." Another line of Mao's poem ???·? "Snow - to the tune of Chin Yuan Chun", first written in 1936, translates as "For truly great men. Look to this age alone." In very good condition. Text in Chinese. 69.8 x 50cm.
