Item Details
Description
Near East, Eastern Anatolia, Turkey, Yoruk / Yuruk culture, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful hand-knotted wool rug with a vibrant and glossy pile with an orange border surrounding a dark blue ground with 3 linking medallions - the colors are characteristic of eastern Anatolia. The piling is high and the peripheries are uneven - attesting to the hand made nature of both finished rug and the loom it was woven upon. The Yoruk are nomadic sheep and goat herders in Eastern Anatolia, their name comes from the Turkish word "wanderer." The geometric motifs are usually plant and animal forms that have been stylized. Size: 77" L x 45" W (195.6 cm x 114.3 cm)
