Item Details
Description
Among the most influential contributors to the world of art in the first half of the 20th century was Frenchman, Jean Cocteau (1889-1963). Described as a Renaissance man, Cocteau was an accomplished writer, poet, playwright, designer, artist, illustrator, movie director and filmmaker, who's circle of friends included: Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani, Yul Brenner, Marlene Dietrich, Coco Chanel, Marcel Proust, and Igor Stravinsky. His artistic style with simple graphic lines, is easily recognizable and his passion for profiles is reflective in much of his visual art. His recurring modernization of classical themes, utilizing symbols, such as combining the symbol of a fish with the symbol of the all seeing eye, are common in his works. This green and yellow crayon drawing is of of a man's face in profile. His eye is in the shape of a fish, possibly representing Orpheus, the mythological Greek poet, musician, and prophet, with whom he identified and most used in his work. SiCustom framed.
