Description
Howell, Frank (Lakota Sioux, American 1937-1997 ), Rainbow I, II, III, 1990, three monotypes on paper. Each signed, dated, and titled at lower edges. Howell was born in Sioux City, Iowa in 1937 and was a central figure in the Southwest Native Art Movement, best known for creating meticulously painted portraits of Native Americans. He studied art and writing at the University of Northern Iowa. In the late 1960s, he moved to Colorado and opened Breckenridge Galleries. After living briefly in Taos and Colorado, he opened the Howell Gallery in Santa Fe. Center sheet 25.5 x 31.5 inches, left and rights sheets 25.5 x 19.5 inches.
Condition
