Description
East Asia, China, late Qing to Republic era, ca. late 19th to mid-20th CE. A gorgeous lacquered bronze Buddha statue in a serene meditative pose, one hand forming a karana mudra gesture and the other palm is open on his lap, a petite hole indicates a separate vase of amrita was probably once placed here. The remaining gilding is painted in a luxurious floral motif on his flowing robes. This figure is based on earlier Ming Dynasty statues, but tests to the bronze and pigment reveals this is a later casting. Size: 9.75" L x 6.75" W x 14.5" H (24.8 cm x 17.1 cm x 36.8 cm)
