I purchased auction lot 0034 in the March 20, 2021 auction for $480. Title was “1984 Soncino Babylonian Talmud, English Edition, 30 Vol.” The description included “The Soncino Babylonian Talmud, 30 Of 30 Volumes” and condition described as “very good, the books are not brand new and have been read but are in excellent condition.” I received the books in a reasonable time and inventoried the 30 volumes. I discovered that the 30 volumes did not contain the complete Talmud but rather a collection of various printings, conditions, and titles. The set was missing two volumes. It totaled 30 volumes because it included older editions that had then been printed in two parts. Only a single book was printed in 1984 of the “1984 [ … ] Talmud”. The other 29 were earlier and later printings. I also discovered that several of the books of this “very good” and “excellent” condition set were ex library copies, two had cracked hinges and one had water damage. All 30 volumes were dull and not as brilliant as pictured. I also discovered that the exact same picture without photo correction was used in a previous sale. Seller refuses to refund because the terms state “no refunds” and “as-is.” This is even though I essentially received an encyclopedia set with two A volumes and two B volumes, missing C and D, but sold as complete. Seller calls this my “bad bid” for not asking what volumes were included in the complete set. Recommend caution when purchasing from this auction house. Do not rely on the description or picture for accuracy.

Regardless of the amount spent or importance of item, Fitzgerald customer service is outstanding. I've dealt with many auction houses and they are excellent.

I was so impressed with the packaging of my books that I had one at their auction. You would’ve thought it was fine China being packaged. I admire them even more. They understand How I feel about the purchase I made otherwise they would not of packaged it so well. It was a seamless purchase and payment. I just need you to wait for the delivery. In fact they kept me informed and even sent a note that my purchase was being shipped stating it was on the move.

I have bought books and other items at auction from Fitzgeralds on more than one occasion. I have found their descriptions to be accurate. The books and other items I have won have always been packed carefully and shipped in a timely fashion. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for antiquarian books or other antiquarian items.

This auction house has some really amazing historical books and the bidding process was very enjoyable. The books that I did win arrived within a timely manner and in good shape. I was a little disappointed in the condition when they arrived. A few of the books were in poorer condition than what was stated and pictured. The color and condition of the books interior pages were shown as much cleaner and whiter than they actually were and soiling on one book was much worse. Another book had a sweet cigar smell to it which was not mentioned in the description. The payment process was a little bit of a hassle as two separate invoices and payments had to be made, one for the books and the other for shipping cost. For future auctions I would recommend having one invoice sent and more accurate color representation in the photographs to match the actual items.
