Disappointing experience, potentially fraudulent firm
I purchased a painting from Eton Auctions via LiveAuctioneers. Initially I received no response from the firm. After multiple followups I received an invoice. After paying the invoice again I received no response until a painting showed up on my doorstep. The painting was horribly damaged. Eton promised a refund in writing and stated that they would initiate a bank transfer. After multiple follow-ups I am unsure how to proceed. My advice: stay away from his firm.

Dear Vikram, We offered to give you a refund from the minute you raised your personal concerns with the painting, we asked you to return the painting to us so we can obtain the refund from our vendor, but no response from you as to the return of the painting? Secondly we clearly told you this piece of FN Souza was in need of major restoration hence the reflection in price of £ 500, which was accepted as your offer by our vendor. If this piece in good condition in our opinion would be worth 10 times as much. As it stands we are still here and willing to refund your monies and pay for the courier charges back to us, please reply to us on our email at info@ etonauctions. co. uk FAO: Simon.

No Certificate of Authenticity Despite Promise to Provide One
In describing their auction, Eton Auctions stated that, "Every item comes with a certificate of authenticity, so you can be confident in the provenance of each piece." When I asked Eton to send me a photo of the certificate of authenticity that would accompany the piece that I purchased, a representative of Eton responded as follows: "You will get a certificate of authenticity from Eton Auctions which will accompany the piece." Based on these representations, I paid for the piece and shipping charges from UK to USA. Although the piece was packaged nicely and shipped timely, it was not accompanied by a certificate of authenticity or any other paperwork for that matter. I have requested a full refund before I ship the piece back to Eton.
