GRADE F! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! If I could give 0 stars, I would! Ma San is a disreputable auction house that sold me a Chinese Horse & Rider statue that was supposedly 965 years old (according to a TL Report provided by Ma San). I’ve had the piece appraised by both a professional art historian in Delaware and a world-renowned Chinese art dealer in Massachusetts, and both said the piece is a bad fake. Not only are the markings on the terracotta clay inside the horse inconsistent with erosion and fingerprints on real, 965-year-old Chinese figures, but the horse’s stance is inconsistent with figures made during that period (i. e., none have head down and swaying to side) and the sculpting itself is wrong (i. e., the musculature in the horse’s legs are excessive and there’s a giant crease in the rear). Also, none have riders like the one Ma San's has. Plus, the dating on the TL Report Ma San Auction provided is completely wrong. It says the piece is Tang and 965 years old. However, 965 years ago is about 1060 AD, which is 100 years AFTER the Tang Dynasty ended in 907 AD.

Dear , We have been in full contact with you by email regarding this matter-it is unreasonable to say we have refused to respond as we have in fact responded to every email you have sent. As detailed in the email we sent you-We sold a private collection of early Chinese ceramics in our February 2023 sale. Majority of the items were authentic and were fully described as authentic in the sale catalogue. The item that you won-We did not date this item in the catalogue. It was described as ‘ A large Chinese painted pottery horse with a female rider, with TL test ’. We are completely transparent in the sale descriptions of items which come to us to be sold. In this sale there were 88 lots from the single owner which were acquired around the late 1990s and early 2000s. We were instructed to clear the contents of the house and the items are sold as found and described to the best of our ability. We have offered for you to have the item re-TL tested at our cost but you have not agreed. We sell both authentic and decorative items through our sale room and advise everything to read our descriptions and contact us if you may have any questions regarding age and authenticity. A very dependable Auction House.
Ma San Auction House sent my winning item and it reached the US on Nov. 29, 2021. For almost a whole week, my local post office did not inform me of its arrival. Luckily for me, on Friday, Dec. 3, Ma San sent me an email notifying me that the package had arrived on Nov 29. That's why I came and got my package on Monday, Dec. 6.
