This auction house is probably the worst company, in ANY business, that I have ever dealt with.
Something To Own, in my experience, is a terrible auction house. FedEx invoice I received, says shipping was $37.00... Auction house charged me $650.00. Claimed to FedEx that the package was a porcelain item when in reality, it was two swords I won (Antique Musketeer swords). FedEx wouldn't ship. 4 months later, Fedex says they still have the package in Stanstead, GB, though Something to Own says they retrieved them. Then, the auction house wanted to charge me $350.00 to complete shipping, though they don't even have the items. They refused to ship or to give me a refund because I didn't pay the extra $350. On top of that, the company admitted that these "antique" swords were actually movie props used on the set of a Musketeer movie! Not one bit of truth from this auction house, and no attempt to complete the transaction I had already paid for. Absolutely the worst experience.... being cheated and lied to by a company I had paid and exorbitant amount to for shipping. I cannot actually believe they are still in business..... AND I hope Live Auctioneers will immediately remove them from their list of Auction Houses. DO NOT DEAL WITH SOMETHING TO OWN.

Please read the fine print
Unfortunately I didn't read the profile/agreement before doing business with this company. The fact that they are in Great Britain makes the shipment costs extremely expensive, and their service fee as well. Once I received the invoice I was shocked with the astronomically high total. I took responsibility of my mistake and I paid with a broken heart. Three months later I'm informed that the parcel was lost in transit and that Something to Own was not liable. The invoice indicated that the shipment cost included insurance, the Something to Own informed me that FedEx would not insure porcelain figurines. Please be aware of my unfortunate experience.

avoid this auction house at all costs
this auction house runs a scam. you win the item at what you think is an unbelievable deal and then they hit you with ridiculous shipping costs. The item I won was a Murano glass sculpture. The auction house wouldn't let me use outside shipping. They wouldn't allow me to pick it up. i switched the shipping to Europe and shipped to my brother which was still ridiculous in price to ship. The item arrived broken to the customs house that was clearing the item. Customs provided a report. my brother also took further photographs that proved the item broke in a spot that had already been broken but had been glued. They had not disclosed this in the condition report. They would not refund any amount including the shipping inflated shipping costs. This auction house is run by scammers. I will provide photos and all correspondence if this review is challenged. This auction house is run by scammers. Why liveautioneers allows these type of auction houses on their site shows how desperate live auctioneers is as well. live auctioneers should be held responsible as well. the site is filled with dishonest auction houses. its a joke. Something To Own is one of a number to be avoided

BUYER BEWARE
I was the only bidder on an item so won the bid at $10usd. The item is a glass figurine the size of a child’s hand. Then i received an invoice for $233usd. I reached out to something to own and after several (24) emails back and forth. They kept trying to justify the cost saying that the retail value of the item is $400usd. this has no bearing on their charges for shipping and handling; or for that matter my winning bid. then they offered to lower my shipping charges by 10 %. i asked for an itemized invoice. they sent back saying the shipping was $145usd and the handling was $75usd. they even said in more than one email, “we do not make money on the shipping”. then they tried to justify the price with the fact that “most” auction houses charge a 30 % buyers premium. so i offered to pay the buyers premium instead. they threatened to have my auction account suspended with liveauctioneers. then they offered to reduce the shipping cost by 20 %. and they offered to charge me $165usd. then they said they would only charge $155usd. i informed them i knew they were charging more than twice the cost for shipping. but agreed to the $155. still better than $233. so they sent me a new invoice. the new invoice was higher than what i had agreed to. they were trying to confuse me with the exchange rate between uk and usd. then they said they were doing me a favor by not charging me around $500usd in late fees on my original invoice. it had been 13 days. they next day i received an invoice for the amount we had agreed on. i received my item. a week or so later the shipper (fedex) sent me a copy of the shipping receipt. the shipping costs were around $42usd. i just want everyone to know what a scam the something to own auction house is. “we don’t make any money on shipping charges”. right. they aren’t going to make any money from me off their lies in the future.

Never buy from this company.
I bought two items for less than 50 dollars from this company and they misfiled the invoice and tried to charge me over 200, 000 £. They only had autogenerated email responses and were incredibly difficult to contact-it took weeks of effort and Liveauctioneers personal involvement to have any sort of relevant response (heres a tip, if they're dodging your emails, submit an item inquiry bc the company only responds if they think they can make another sale). When I finally got a response from an actual human, it was just excuses, refusal to address the issue, and then a refusal to send a breakdown of the charges. Their auto-generated email had promised a shipping discount for slower rates which I asked for, but after all their mistakes and trouble they made for me what actually happened is they tried to raise the shipping price another 25 dollars. After all that stress and aggressively bad customer service, the company did not even pack the items well-they were in a overly large box filled with packing peanuts, but the two stone sculptures were taped together tightly and had bumped against each other and pieces have chipped off. No one should buy from this company, they've got horrible ethics and anything you paid their inflated handling price for will arrive damaged anyway.

Avoid at All Costs
I have not received my item yet, and to be fair, my payment was delayed for a few reasons; mostly due to the fact that my $10 bid became $221 with absolutely no enumeration in the invoice. When I questioned this, I was told that buyers expect to pay quite a bit more than the low price the item typically sells for. There was no breakdown of the charges, but for $15 less, I could have slower shipping, which I opted not to do. Yet my item has languished in the UK for the last 8 days. Also disturbing is the fact that items are only insured for loss in transit but not for loss if broken in transit “because “no value can be placed on these items”! I’m sure that’s news to anyone who buys or sells on Ruby Lane or EBay. Communication was timely. My previous experiences on Live Auctioneera have been positive ones; with this one, hopefully, lesson learned.

Insane huge shipping charge
Up-charged an extra 900 % shipping on a tiny $10 item that weighs less than 8oz. They "explained" this was normal extra charge to make up for their auction I won for $10, much lower than they expected to end with. Basically a scam, they don't reveal the actual shipping charge prior to auction, then tack on unreasonable extra profit for the item involved. Will never do business with "Something to Own" (a UK shop/gallery/business?) again. VERY shady business practices, but technically legal, due to their fine print and not revealing adequate shipping info ahead of time.

Shipping from England is auto included. Invoice not broken down.
This seller sold me a $10 item, but invoiced for $200 because it includes shipping automatically. It's a rip. I asked seller to break down the invoice without shipping so I could pay them and throw it away without shipping. They continue to refuse my offer. They sell item not shipping. They continue refusing. This is why all their items pass. Don't get burned by these guys.

A 5-Star Confidence Game/A 1-Star Fraudulent Retailer (not auctioneer)
Not a real auction house. The return label says they sell on Etsy. Won a $10 "bid" with no buyer's premium but was invoiced a hidden 78 pound "buyers fee" (this is an British operation) that was not listed on Liveauctioners. Probably ended up paying their Etsy price, but instead of having a recourse for fraud on Etsy, Liveauctioneers does nothing to protect its users. Instead was told that this "was better" than paying a normal buyer's premium. Once the bidding in dollars closed, the remaining transaction was conducted in pounds sterling which means had to pay a conversion fee which the seller refused to pay or even split, another fraud. This is a confidence game in that the hammer price is not the real purchase price. And like they have done to other customers (see other reviews), this Etsy seller threatened all kinds of draconian measures if their invoice was not paid. LiveAuctioners should not list or allow operations like this one to call themselves "auctioneers" and use their site. As such the bulk of the blame rests with LiveAuctioneers for allowing this Sheriff of Nottingham (that is where they are located, as in Robin Hood) to use their platform for fraudulent purposes. Shame on LIveauctioneers and will be remembered.

Beware of shipping costs
I bought a pair of earrings which sold for $20, a great deal except that Something to Own charged me around $200 to ship them to me. I felt swindled in the process and never would have bid on this item had I realized the additional cost would be so significant. Even though this was an international shipment (UK to USA), I still don't think I could have expected such a rate for in-house shipping. Also it was almost exactly a month from winning and paying in full for the item to having it arrive.

Stay away
Read all reviews in this section before bidding on anything. Common theme.. they say 0 % auction house commission. You may win something (in my case an item for 10 dollars). Received an invoice for 185 pounds, citing shipping costs. This item weighs an ounce, if that. I routinely ship to and from Europe and am very familiar with shipping charges. I was given the option of their third party shipper, who shockingly came in around 5 pounds shy of their quote. I'm sure there is no relationship. In any event, they have been placed on notice I will NOT be purchasing the item. It's a scam. And their terms are incomprehensible. I have also made live aware of their practice pattern as evidenced by carbon copy reviews. If they file an issue, i would be more than happy to discuss the matter with a live representivive. And live decides to ban me from using the site, so be it... I do not want to be part of a service that allows this type of business to operate on its platform

If you live in the United States, be very aware of the excessive costs for handling and shipping items purchased in Europe. I tried to get a phone number to call for estimated shipping prior to bidding but the call would not go through. This item is not more than 3 x 3 inches at most. I won the auction for $10.00. They are invoicing me for an additional $230.00. I refuse to be robbed! I will gladly pay for the item and they can keep it. There was a New York address here in the US at the bottom of the original page. But it seems all items are in the UK. I have purchased many items from the UK and still will but NOT from this company. It should cost no more than $25 for shipping something this tiny. I won another auction for 35 pounds for 2 perfume bottles just like this one with a different auction name and it is also this same company. I may get kicked off Liveauctioneers but I will only pay for the auction amount and they can keep those as well! They sent me the email of a third party shipper but they own it as well as far as I can tell. I will never buy from another auction without checking their reviews and I would not have bid on any items had I checked.

Something To Own Uses Swindling-"In-House Shipping"-BEWARE
Something To Own will claim that they offer "In-House Shipping" or a "designated Shipping Partner" as a service to the Buyer BUT what is not mentioned in their "Terms & Conditions", is the almost criminal shipping and handling charges they charge you for the items won with their auctions. I purchased two Lladro pieces, each for $15 (total auction cost of $30). I only wish I had read previous reviews! I wish I had the mindset to just let the pieces go back to them as "non-deliverable". Only after I had paid the final invoice (which I was extremely shocked by...) and only after I had requested from LiveAuctioneers a complete, itemized invoice did I see how I had been swindled. I do not accept Something To Own's justifications as mentioned in previous replies to other Buyers 'negative reviews! I have purchased many Lladro pieces that originate from England and have been shipped to me (Utah, USA), and never, never have I paid $270 for in-house shipping ($170), handling & packing ($100)! I am sure Something To Own will rebut my comments but the fact remains, that they give minimal information regarding the items listed, they entice with a 0 % Buyer's Premium, they extoll their In-House shipping as a convenience, and claim many auction houses don't offer the same (not true!). I did receive my items (unbroken) which I was shocked they weren't but nonetheless, besides the supersaturation on LiveAuctioneers of their items up for auction, don't be lulled into doing business with them... IT WILL COST YOU!!! I truly wish there was a way to block this auctioneer from my searches! Something To Own swindles money using their "In-House Shipping, et al" as a ruse to gouge buyers. As an added statement, I have never left a negative review with any of the other auction houses I have worked with... This was the first, and only business, I have had with Something To Own and it is the last. I make this review with knowledge and experience.

Hello Tracy, thank you for taking the time to write this comment on your experience and we're sorry to hear that you're dissatisfied by the shipping. It is indicated in our Terms that shipping is in-house with the option of a third-party courier, so you would have been made aware before bidding. With regards to exact costs involved, this is entirely dependent on the weight, size, nature of items, destinations, etc, and as such you must request a pre-auction shipping quote from us, which you did not do. We cannot predict which items you're going to bid on. You also had the change to reach out to our third-party shipper (although this would have delayed your shipment), which you didn't do, and proceeded to making the payment late to us-you were not charged late fees, however.

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER
Buyer beware! I won a $20 figurine that is 9cm tall and their quote for shipping was $195! They referred me to their "external" shipper (I suspect it's the same person just using a different email address) and the quote went down to $95. This is a fraud house pretending to sell items but they are actually making their money off shipping charges. I told them I would pay the $20 to honor my auction bid and that they could keep or literally throw away the item. They refused to do that as they "have to fulfill the shipping". Exactly my point-they aren't selling goods, they are selling shipping fees. Do not buy from this seller. Doing so has made me lose my faith in Live Auctioneers that this type of seller is allowed to function on their website.

Hello, apologies to hear your concerns with regards shipping. We make it explicitly clear in our shipping policy, found on all of our listing pages, that shipping is in-house & we are contracted with several third-party shippers. Buyers have the opportunity to message us and request a shipping quote before bidding-this quote takes into account handling, packaging (as this is a service most auction houses/sellers do not provide), insurance and weights, size etc). We are happy again to assist you with this if you reach out to us via email. Thanks

My experience with something to own has been the absolute worst. Not only was it so difficult to get to the bottom of the high shipping & handling fees (over $500 & almost double the amount that I paid for the goods), I finally got the items today and they were all thrown into a box with zero padding, with two of the more expensive items broken & two other chipped. I wish I could post pictures to show how these people shipped fragile items overseas!! Also one of the 13 items is missing. How can a company ship 12 out of 13 fragile "victorian era" items without padding and not care that they would most likely get damanaged... and also charge so much for handling?? This entire process has been so horrible & this bottom of the barrel level of customer service is pretty shocking. Buy from them at your own risk!!
