20th Century Art & Design Auction held on Sunday,September 10th at The John Toomey Gallery located in Oak Park (a Chicago suburb) at 818 North Blvd. phone: 708.383.5234. This important three session sale contains over 1100 lots. The first session contains important items in Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau and Art Deco, including furniture, from Gustav Stickley, Limbert and Frank Lloyd Wright with highlights include an L & JG Stickley china cabinet, #729. A large selection of American and European Ceramics such as important Teco vase by W. D. Gates, Newcomb, Rookwood, SEG, Fulper, Marblehead, Amphora, Dalpayrat, and others. Several lamps will be offered including Tiffany, Handel, Pairpoint. as well as a pair of George W. Maher sconces. Important metalwork by Tiffany, Jarvie, Cellini, Jessie Preston, an assortment of glass such as Galle, Lalique, Quezal and others. The second session will include Fine Art and Paintings featuring several works by Ellis Prentice Cole, Carl Rudolph Krafft, Carl Schmidt, John Adams Spelman, One of the highlights being a "Harbor Scene" by William Eduoard Scott and a oil by Ada Walter Shulz entitled "Summer". The third session consists of Mid Century-Modern by such designers as Henry Glass, Norman Cherner, Laverne, Edward Wormley, Mies van der Rohe, Phillipe Starck, Cini Boeri, Alvar Aalto, Gilbert Rohde and others. Several lots of Pillin ceramics will be offered as well as art glass by Dale Chihuly, Lino Tagliapietra and others. There is also a nice grouping of Mid-Century lighting and other decorative items to be offered.
