The Chew Brother's Collection: Asian Art I

Chew Thye Poh (周太宝 1941-2016) and his brother Chew Thye Hong (周太丰 1946) were born in a family of artists in Singapore. Their grandfather was a sculpture craftsman, and their father and mother were painters. Throughout their childhood, their home was surrounded by artwork, instilling a love of art in the Chew brothers. The young brothers gradually became interested in art collection and later started to engage in the art industry. After graduating from the famous Asian Art History major of LaSalle College of Art in Singapore, they both engaged in the research and appreciation of Asian art history, and respectively began to collect exquisite Asian artworks. In 1980's, with the recovery of the Southeast Asian economy, Chew Thye Poh and his wife traveled all over the world to discover exquisite artworks in various places. During this exploration, he was deeply attached to Hawaii's unique natural and cultural history, and later his family decided to move to Hawaii. Having witnessed the booming local tourist business, Chew Thye Poh started his own tourism business. Influenced by his academic background in art and his love for art collection, his tourist services also featured many of art and collection related activities. During those 30 years of living in Hawaii and through his tourist business, he has made connections with many collectors in the world, who became an important resource of Chew Thye Poh’s collection business. In his later years, he also regularly held Asian Art Appreciation Salons to showcase his collections with tourists from different places in the world, sharing the knowledge and aesthetic value behind those art collections, until his death in 2016. He left behind a legacy of enthusiasm for art to collectors all over the world. The other brother, Chew Thye Hong eventually settled down in Taiwan and devoted his life to Asian art research. As part of his academic research investigation, he visited Vietnam, China, South Korea, Malaysia, and Japan. As a result of his professional background, he has a high standard for art collections and has collected items with high artistic values, such as paintings and calligraphies from celebrities. His collection has been the perfect combination of history and aesthetics. With the permission of Chew Thye Poh’s wife Kit Fann, we would like to share his lifelong love with collectors around the world. His younger brother has entrusted us to show the calligraphy and paintings of his Asian art collections. We welcome everyone to enjoy this art celebration online. We sincerely thank all friends and your participation is our best support and recognition.
