A copy of a letter from Bernstein authenticating the work accompanies the painting. Aiden Lassell Ripley:Painting and Sketching; France, 1928. Watercolor. Frank Simon Herrmann: Original artist's sketchbook. This exceptionally rare artist's sketchbook is extensively annotated and profusely illustrated by Herrmann. This book and the accompanying gouache are believed to have been made on Herrmann's trips to Europe with Alfred Stieglitz. The gouache is likely from their May 1894 trip to France.
