Writing about the 1902-O in 1982, silver dollar specialist Wayne Miller opined, "Typically among the poorest struck of the late New Orleans dollars. Most are flatly struck, with horrible luster." The present coin is a spectacular exception to the rule, as it exhibits sharply detailed design elements throughout, and well-preserved brilliant surfaces with no mentionable distractions.
