Pair of Exceptional Jacob Petit Paris Porcelain and Gilt-Bronze Candelabra

mid-19th century, French, the six-light candelabra beautifully painted with scenes of shepherds and shepherdesses dressed in 18th-century costume, in Arcadian landscapes on the obverse, and baskets of flowers and birds on the reverse, trimmed in raised gilt, on a blue celeste ground, with Louis XV-style gilt-bronze mounts, the candelabra inserts in the form of candle socket-mounted lilies interspersed among sculptured lilies, the insert base made of seamed sheet brass, each signed "J.P." in underglaze blue.

Provenance: A River Oaks Estate, Houston, Texas.

The porcelain is in very good condition with no visible losses, cracks or repairs. Glaze and gilding are intact. Three of the bronze candle cup rings and one of the flower terminals are lacking. There is a probable tiny soldered repair to one bronze rim that is now slightly oxidized and raised. Bronze mounts have some accretions and oxidation, but are in overall good condition.
